The rules in brief
- The 2027 maximum rent increase is 2.2% (2.3% in 2026).
- Rent can go up once every 12 months, with three full months' notice on form RTB-7.
- A tenant on a month-to-month tenancy needs to give one full month's notice, ending the day before rent is due.
- A security deposit and a pet damage deposit can each be at most half a month's rent.
- Deposits earn interest at a yearly rate set by the province: 0% for 2026.
