The rules in brief
- Newfoundland and Labrador has no limit on how much rent can go up.
- Rent can go up once every 12 months, with at least 6 months' written notice (Landlord's Notice to Increase Rent).
- A tenant on a monthly tenancy gives 1 full rental period' notice, ending on the last day of a rental period.
- A security deposit can be at most three-quarters of the first month's rent (two weeks' rent for weekly tenancies).
