New Brunswick deposits
New Brunswick security deposit rules.
The rules
- A security deposit can be at most one month's rent (one week's for weekly tenancies). Collecting last month's rent in advance isn't allowed.
- The landlord must hand the deposit to the province within 15 days. Interest belongs to the province, so none is paid to tenants.
- The landlord has 7 days after the tenancy ends to claim it. Otherwise it's returned within 7 days of the tenant's written request.
