The rules
- A security deposit can be at most half a month's rent. A landlord can't charge a separate pet deposit.
- Deposits have earned 0% interest since January 1, 2013 (1% a year before that).
- The landlord must return the deposit within 10 days of the lease ending, or file to keep some of it (Form R).
